Beware of Replicas on ebay

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

eBay has completely revolutionized the way Americans buy and sell used items, rendering traditional newspaper classifieds almost obsolete. People across all age and geographical ranges have turned to it into the number one way to achieve maximum profit when selling used items. And more and more people are discovering it every day!

However, with so many people using eBay to buy and sell items, there are invariably going to be unscrupulous individuals looking to make a quick buck using less-than-honest tactics. One way that these individuals do this is by selling cheap knockoffs as legitimate name-brand items. Just because a watch is advertised as being a Rolex, for instance, is no guarantee that it really is a legitimate Rolex. The buyer must beware.

So how can a buyer be sure that they’re getting what they pay for? Well, although there are no guarantees, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself. First, be aware that the more positive feedback and sales a seller has, generally speaking, the more trustworthy they are. Not that first-time sellers aren’t honest; they just don’t have a track record yet. Second, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Where did they buy this item? What’s the story? If the answers seem shady, walk away. And third, if the deal seems to good to be true, it probably is. Beware of steeply discounted items that usually go for much more money.

Don’t be afraid to use eBay to get some great deals, but be aware of the potential scams out there!
