History Of The Watches

Watches are an integral part of our life. Without watches, whether be wrist watches, digital or analogue watches or sports watches, we can not imagine a disciplined and punctual life. Watches, as said are a necessity of the man, were invented thousands of years back. And it took centuries to develop the watches what we see today. Ancient watches were in forms of sun-dials and water clocks. With the passage of time, hoping to reduce dependability on the unpredicted nature, people began working on more accurate machines for timekeeping.

After centuries and ceaseless transformations, the preliminary forms of modern watches appeared in the early 16th century. These watches were invented in Tudor, England. Soon the new form, though heavy and large, earned wide acclaim. These timekeeping devices were generally used as a necklace or pocket watches.

Later in seventeenth century, the pocket watches are commonly put on, while efforts were underway to enhance their accuracy and so on. The following watches were more accurate and efficient. A person named John Harrison was awarded for his valuable contribution in horology. The expert had worked endlessly to come up with an accurate watch that could help naval personnel in evaluating exact longitudinal locations of the ships.

In eighteenth century, innovation in clocks or watches continued. However, for the wrist watches, people had to wait for another century – 19th century. A man called Patik Phillipoe came up with first wrist watch. As expected, wrist watches soon became fashion. Early on the fashion of wrist watches were mainly confined to women only. However, soon men started accepting the trend and kicked off another era in the history of watches.

Just after modern watches took birth, people came up with wrist watches that had additional features such as alarm and so on. Rolex, known as number one watch brand presently, was incepted in those days only. 20th century witnessed a rapid transformation and enhancement in these watches. Innovation, though aimed at cashing in its huge market, continued and helped in developing watches that we see today.

Presently, we have lots of watch designs, model and even types. Most of the watches are highly advanced. But who knows, how the watches look like after next hundred years…Innovations are still on.
